note that in addition to other established screening requirements, all nonimmigrant visa applicants (male and female) ages 16 years or older who are nationals of Syria , Iran , Sudan , Libya , Cuba or North Korea must now apply for the visa in person and be interviewed by a consular officer. Furthermore, there will be significant delays in the issuance of visas to approved applicants. This processing may take several weeks from the time of the interview, and the visa will not be issued until it is completed. There are no exceptions to this policy.
The Department of State has instituted these new requirements in implementation of Section 306 of the Enhanced Border Security and Visa Reform Act of 2002 pertaining to the issuance of visas to aliens from state sponsors of terrorism.
IRAQ'S “S “ SERIES PASSPORT NOT VALID FOR TRAVEL TO U.S.
Effective January 8, 2007, the United States will no longer issue visas in Iraq S series passports or accept them for admission to the United States . The G series Iraq passport, which incorporates robust, effective security features, can be used for visas or travel to the United States . Iraqis with S series passports who wish to travel to the United States should contact the nearest Iraqi embassy to find out how to obtain a G series passport.
We recognize that this may inconvenience legitimate travelers, but the security flaws of the S series passport require that we immediately end its use for travel to the United States .
